Kitana Price

Kitana is a 21-year-old Wotjobaluk artist from the North-west region of Victoria, born and raised in the south-east suburbs of Naarm/Melbourne on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nations. Within her work as a freelance artist based in Narrm/Melbourne, Kitana explores concepts of identity and ancestral knowledge through interdisciplinary practices.

Kitana has an interdisciplinary background, training in Contemporary, Jazz, Hip hop, Ballet, Ballroom, and Theatre throughout her secondary and tertiary education. At just the age of four-years-old, Kitana’s dance journey started in the Ballroom studio of her hometown where she learnt Street Latin, Latin, Modern and New Vogue styles. Her passion for dance only grew stronger, completing her early access VCE Dance in 2021, receiving a dux award for the subject at Officer Secondary College. During this time, she trained in contemporary, lyrical, jazz, and hip hop styles at Starstruck Dance and Cheerleading Academy, falling in love with the freeness of contemporary movement. Kitana applied for VCA and was accepted to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) upon completion of her Secondary studies in 2022.

Upon moving to the Naarm/Melbourne CBD to pursue her studies, Kitana was accepted into student accommodation at the University of Melbourne’s Ormond College, where she became a strong member of the Indigenous community. During her studies at Victorian College of the Arts, Kitana has been a First Nations representative of the cohort at Performing arts festivals both internationally and locally. She has been a First Nations VCA representative in the 2023 Prague Quadrennial Festival, performed as a dancer for ‘CTHULHU’ in the2024 MUSE Festival, performed ‘Nonesuch’ choreographed by Anna Smith and ‘Fractal’ choreographed by Nicole Corea in both the 2024 Solo International Performing Arts Festival (SIPA) Jakarta and the 2024 ARTJOG Festival Yogyakarta, and Dr. Phillip Adams’ ‘FOUNTAIN’ in the 2025 Melbourne RISING Festival. In late September 2025, Kitana performed in Buxton Contemporary as a dancer in ‘The Estuary’ concert performance, a collaboration with students from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at the VCA in response to ‘The Veil’ installation.  

As a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) at the Victorian College of the arts, Kitana has learnt from and worked with a number of renowned artists including; Julie Minaai, Nicole Corea, Kialea Nadine-Williams, Dr Phillip Adams, Rheannan Port. As part of her final year, Kitana performed in works ‘Diamond Rain’ choreographed by Rheannan Port and Wirastuti Susilaningtyas, and Melanie Lane’s ‘Under Oath’ as part of the VCA 2025 ‘Pluriverse’ Graduate Show Season, completing her study at the University of Melbourne.

Currently working as a First Nations Trainee in The Australian Ballet’s Education and Outreach team, Kitana travels around the country delivering dance workshops to Primary and Secondary schools based on the story of ‘Balar Diburr’ by Kuku Yalanji woman - Merindi Schrieber. She has also had the opportunity to teach alongside Ella Havelka in the Yurali Ensemble Ballet - a First Nations school holiday program that aims to indigenise ballet and provide training opportunities to First Nations Youth.
